The History of King's Chandelier Company
In 1935, Mr. D. F. King founded a small company named King’s Antiques, specializing in the restoration of antique chandeliers. As this business grew, Mr. King’s extensive searches for component pieces lead him to the European crystal market and the realization that he could create his own chandeliers from imported pieces. Very quickly, the small business evolved into King’s Chandelier Company.

After a decade of selling his own designs locally from a small shop on Boone Road in Leaksville, NC, Mr. King took his customers suggestions to heart and began to advertise nationally. He listed one chandelier with the price. With this, King’s Chandelier became the first nationally advertised, mail order, chandelier company in the United States. In 1955, King’s Chandelier Company published its first catalog and began its present tradition of offering a large selection of crystal chandeliers at affordable prices.

Upon D. F. King’s death, his son Durward F. King, Jr. took over the business. On August 11, 1965, with much fanfare and congratulatory wishes, Durward King moved the shop to its present location on Hwy. 14. In 1967 Leaksville merged with Spray and Draper, and the three tiny mill towns became Eden. Business grew so quickly that in 1974 Durward King expanded the building to its present size including over 4,000 square feet of showroom space.

Presently, King’s Chandelier Company is owned and operated by Franklin King Ricks, the nephew of Durward King and grandson of the founder D. F. King, Sr. National advertising includes over 15 forums plus a web presence that was created in 1996. In May of 2005 we opened a second showroom in Furniture Avenue Galleries on Hwy 29 in High Point North Carolina. We still offer a print catalog and welcome all visitors to our showrooms.
